A 2CV enthusiast was asked by an acquaintance if he had a 2CV van for sale, preferably a red one. He didn’t have one. But he had enough parts in his shed to build one to his liking. And so he did.

The bodywork was fitted with all sorts of new panels and painted red. We’re not entirely sure what colour, but it resembles the somewhat deeper Rouge de Rio from the mid-1970s. The mechanicals were thoroughly overhauled, and new tires and upholstery were installed. A galvanized chassis was used as the basis, officially given a new chassis number by the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority).

Puritans will have already noticed that the registration number is for an AK 350, the lower version of the 2CV van. The tall AK 400 didn’t arrive until a few years later. But we don’t think that should spoil the fun; By combining various parts, it’s not a car that’s going to win the originality price or the trophy for best finish at the Concours d’Élegance. It’s simply a fun-to-drive and cheerful little car.

The previous owner had that too, but in recent years it sat idle as a decorative piece in a bed shop. We picked it up there, got it running smoothly again, and fitted it with new brakes and Michelin tires.

We’re curious to see what your plans wit hit will be!
