A while ago we bought this AK 350 in Spain. It had been in a shed for a very long time, with the engine disassembled. Once started with the repair, but never finished. Perhaps the reason it still exists today.

The AK 350 was delivered from 1963, as the bigger and longer brother of the AZU. But the Spanish factory in Vigo thought it was time for an even larger version a few years later, with the same length, but about 10 cm extra height.

The increase was quite simply achieved by a raised headboard and rear panels. The standard roof was simply made 10 cm higher by welding a strip of steel to it. The seam was finished with an aluminum strip. Very pragmatic.

They were built for a few years from 1968 and succeeded in 1970 by the AKS, which was later called the 400. This was given a roof plate in 1 part.

The engine was broken and the parts could no longer be used. So we made a virtue of necessity and fitted a modern 602cc lower block (with oil filter) with the old plating and the flat manifold and cylinder heads. We also fitted 650 cc pistons and cylinders to add some spice to the battle against drag.

So it has some extra torque, available at low revs, which makes it very nice ride. The floors and footwell have also been addressed, so constructively it is sound.

“Shouldn’t it be resprayed?” No, we have other 2cv’s for that. This one stays as it is, as if it just came out of that Spanish barn.
