How would Citroën have chosen its paint colours? The first 2CVs were available in any color, as long as it was grey. Cars were scarce, customers were not, so they could keep it simple. When there were more brands and models to choose from and the public became more critical, more seduction was required and colours were introduced that matched the wishes of buyers.

In the sixties there were a lot of soft pastel colours, in the seventies the spirit of the times was expressed in bright orange, green and yellow. Towards the eighties the colours became somewhat more neutral. Primary white, red and blue, and colour combinations for the Charlestons. But there was also simple grey, which again seemed to point to the past. A – to my taste – brilliant heavenly blue color – Bleu Celeste – reached the showroom from model year ’85.

This colour was a nice mix between rational, romance and nostalgic. It fits perfectly next to your neighbors’ silver-grey mid-size car, your Holly Hobbie cushions didn’t look out of place and yet if you peeked through your eyelashes, you could also see it driving through a classic French scene from the 1950s.

Would this be the perfect colour for the 2cv? Well, let’s first narrow it down to whether it suits you. You don’t have to compromise on condition, this 2CV is in excellent condition. Structurally and technically well maintained, visually beautiful with some small signs of life. Exactly right.

Its fabric seats are comfortable, it drives smoothly and is ready to steam off to Provence. If you don’t like its square headlights, we will probably find a round solution for that.
