The 2cv 4×4 Sahara was developed for use in rough terrain in France and its colonies. They were also very useful in the mountains and in the snow. Mr. Zuidema thought so too and in 1962 he ordered one.

Zuidema was medical director at a Dutch sanatorium in Davos and used the 2cv for local commuting. Only in winter, in summer he used his luxury car. The car is visible in front of the sanatorium on historical photographs that have been preserved.

Two Dutch boys who stayed in the sanatorium in the 1960s often saw the car and became fascinated by it. In 1974, one of them got the chance to take it over and drove it to Rotterdam, with license plates from another Dutch 2cv.

The Sahara was used there for a while and then stored in a shed in Groningen, where it only came out once to take some photos. After the death of the owner, the car came into the hands of the second “boy” in 2013, now a little older. He completely restored the car and drove it sparingly for a few years. Due to emigration, he said goodbye to the Sahara.

We then improved the car on a number of points and overhauled the technical components. Now it is ready for the next enthusiast.

It still has both of its original engines with their specific carburettors. The spare wheel also has an original tire with AW, the type designation for the Sahara, on it. Of course, it also has all the other specific details, such as the specially woven upholstery, the reinforced chassis, the tanks under the seats, the lever on the floor to switch two gearboxes at the same time and the two ignition locks.

The car has an NL registration and is fully ready to enjoy.
