In June 1959, this 2CV made its maiden trip. In grey, because that was the standard colour at the time. After the summer, they became available in Bleu Glacier, the first real colour on the French 2CVs. Did the owner of this car get annoyed at that time? Would he have preferred a blue one too and did he have it sprayed blue on the exterior?

That is one theory, it may have happened much later. But probably before 1980, because that is its last tax sticker on the windscreen. It was later registered in the Netherlands in 2016. That is probably when the new floor plates and upholstery were fitted. The tyres are from 2013, so also around that time.

It is a PO (Pays Outre-Mer) version, with a special bumper, oil bath air filter and a sturdier chassis. Ready for a career in overseas territories or a harder life in the French countryside.

Now it needs some – mainly technical – attention again. Some work on the brakes and suspension, a few wheel bearings, some maintenance, etc. Quite manageable, and we can do it for you for an additional fee. But perhaps you want to do some work on it yourself this winter and make it to your liking, then you can take it as it is.

We also have a bolder plan brewing. Keep the wonderfully weathered appearance and replace the drivetrain with more modern stuff. Then it will keep up with traffic a bit better. Well, let’s see which idea wins!
