In ’61 the Ami 6 was introduced, as a model between the 2cv and DS. Also aiming at a growing target group, the ladies. Apparently Citroën not only saw a bright future for the car in Europe, but also in the USA. A model was developed especially for that market, including a specific front and bumpers.

This Ami has such a front, with a different grille and blinkers. It came to the Netherlands in ’97, but the story does not tell whether it originated from the USA or France. It could well be that it was a car intended for an American customer, which was delivered in Europe. This happened more often, in Paris a special branch was in charge of it. The customer often first went on a tour through Europe, after which the car was shipped.

Sounds a lot more romantic than that such a front has been dug up from a Citroën warehouse and was screwed onto a “normal” European Ami. But that is of course also a possibility. In any case, we managed to find a set of original bumpers in America to complete it, they are on their way.

The Ami needs a lot of attention, there is a lot of rust to be found and the engine needs to be overhauled. A nice restoration project, with unique details. The previous owner is too busy with his other classics and that’s why you now have the opportunity to take it over.

The price is based on the car as is, including the bumpers. However, a lot of necessary parts have been collected with the car. These items can also be taken over. Come and see if it looks like a fun project to you.
