2cv6 Spécial
In January ’22 we found this 2CV on the internet, Marc offered it as a particularly good example with only 52,000 km on the clock. My wife and I got in the car and made a trip to Ghent. Marc proudly told me what he had improved on the goat (Flemish for 2CV), but I was not so impressed with the cheap tires and some holes in the chassis, it turned out to be worse than anyone knew or expected. My wife walked away when I told Marc and started the negotiation.
We reached an agreement, because the 2CV had other good points besides its low mileage, which I also mentioned. A little later we were cheerfully waved goodbye, with a red 2CV on the trailer. Another nice basis for a future perfect car richer, but first it disappeared into the warehouse for a while because of too many other projects.
We had the RDW label it, completely dismantled the car, gave it new floor panels and pedal box and exchanged the chassis for a new galvanized one, which removed all the rust. The front fenders were replaced and the painter was asked to spray a fresh coat of Rouge Vallelunga on it.
With some new bumpers, wheels, Michelin tires and much more, we screwed it back together and it became a beautiful 2CV again. Shiny in the paint, smoothly driving and with a life expectancy that is better than when it first went on the road in ’86.
