Citroën dealer Grobe from Dormagen delivered this Dolly to a lady from the same municipality, near the Rhine and Düsseldorf, on October 18, 1987. The lady was looking for covered transport, somewhat more luxurious than the bicycle she used until then for herself and her baby. A 2CV fit the bill perfectly. The cheerful colour scheme of the Dolly completed the fun.

The Dolly was supplied in various colour combinations from 1985 onwards, 7 combinations in total. The red-white one was the most common. They were not sold in the Netherlands, only in England, France and Germany. In most countries based on the 2cv6 Spécial, in Germany the Club version was used as a starting point. They also received specific fabric upholstery, the other equipment was just like the other German 2CVs. With an adjustable backrest for the driver’s seat, the option to use high beam and various brackets and caps to cover sharp parts.

The Dolly continued to drive in Germany until 1997, when it ended up at de Eendenspecialist in Leende with approximately 57,000 km. A new owner presented himself, first using it in the Netherlands and then in France. When he brought it back to the Netherlands in 2015, the car was in need of a major overhaul.

We picked it up, got it running again and made a plan to get it back to its former glory. The chassis was replaced by a new one from Cassis, the body was repaired in various places and partly repainted. Technical components were addressed, new pistons and cylinders were installed, the clutch was replaced, and it drove and drives like new again. The original interior was not as sleek as it was in ’87, but it was still original, so we kept it.

After a few years of use, we also installed a new roof and a set of Michelins a while ago. Recently the 2CV has been driven very little, so it can go to a new keeper after an ownership of 27 years. Together they can bring a little more colour to the roads. Will that person also make the career move from bicycle to car?
