A soldier employed by the French army. Middle rank officer, a precise man. Stationed in the north of France, but from the neighborhood of St. Etienne. Sometimes you want to go home, a car is handy. So you buy a pragmatic car, with space for your duffel bag. An Ami 6 Break.

A new car is untouched, but also expensive in terms of depreciation. So a freshly used one is a better choice. Purchased in ’68 with only 4000km, it accompanies M. Vially on his travels, with all actions meticulously recorded in a tiny handwriting. In the first year, the dealer in Montbrison is involved, but later almost all work is carried out by himself and carefully documented. In the technical manual -with the original brochure as a careful, protecting sleaf-, a slip of paper, on a receipt: every piece of paper is used to record the actions. Meticulous, beautiful.

If he didn’t like the sound of the engine during a ride, he’d adjust the ignition on the road side and described it in his booklet. Also the trips had to be efficient, the luggage, the back seat, even his wife was weighed to determine what could come without being overloaded.

The Ami has remained miraculously well preserved, with a few dents in the original sheet metal -no part has ever been repainted- and just some technical part changed. The headlining once let go, the paint is beautifully weathered: the sun can be blamed. The interior, on the other hand, is completely pristine and bright red. The fabric is astonishing. It is also equipped with the original radio, an appreciated accessory.

From ’92 the notes have stopped, Mr. Vially was no longer with us. The Ami was cherished, a beautiful frozen memory. Recently his younger sister handed the car and the stories over to a collector. He kept the Ami as it was. So do we. Awaiting a new owner who can add his handwriting to the car.
